ARCHITECTURAL THEORY

HUNTERS POINT LIBRARY

Throughout this writing intensive course, students examined and analyzed numerous architectural theories and design factors that dive into the explanation and influences of design decisions in society. Historical theory, form and aesthetics, the urban, natural and human environment, and economic, zoning and code factors are just a select few major topics covered. At the end of the semester, students are to choose an important building within their community and write a 5,000 word essay connecting theories studied to the design of the chosen building. The building of focus for this paper was the Hunters Point Library located in Long Island City, Queens, NY recently completed by Steven Holl Architects.
