RESEARCH ALIGNED MENTORSHIP (RAM)

SUMMER RESEARCH INSTITUTE

SUMMER 2020

PREFABRICATED PASSIVE HOUSE CONSTRUCTION:

This research opportunity opened exclusively to RAM scholars will allow students from the Architectural Engineering or Construction Management department to work with Professor Orla LoPiccolo throughout a 10 week course from June to August. The students are to examine Passive House construction, which is known as an energy saving construction method that is most popular in Europe and is growing in the United States. Passive House construction can range from all types of construction, including residential, commercial, and institutional. Super insulated air tight construction methods are used in Passive House and is tested throughout construction to meet high standards for energy saving. There are many benefits to Passive House construction to both the home owner and the environment; saving homeowners 65 to 85% on
heating costs. Students will become familiarized with Passive
House construction and perform further research and will prepare a poster for presentation on August 14th.
